Fostering climbing for well-being & recreation in the Bay of Plenty

Let’s climb!

Whether you are nutting out a boulder problem, hanging upside down on an overhang, racing to the top of the speed wall or supporting your buddies to do the same, climbing has it all… physical, mental, social, nature, it’s teamwork, and a solo endevour. It’s all magical!

…let’s compete

Sport climbing and competing is growing in popularity.

Sport Climbing became an Olympic Sport in Tokyo in 2020 with all three disciplines competing together for one medal. In Paris 2024 a second medal has been awarded to the sport, with Boulder and Lead together, and speed making its debut on its own!

BOPSCA is an affiliated club with Climbing New Zealand, which in turn is a member of the International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) and the IFSC Oceania Council for Sport Climbing (OCSC).

…and let’s go FAST!

In recent years, BOPSCA has established Aotearoa New Zealand’s only Olympic-sized speedwall, situated in Blake Park, Mount Maunganui.

Coached by the illustrious Rob Moore, the development squad is thriving, and in Paris 2024 we are so proud to see two BOPSCA athletes competing!

BOPSCA hosts the Speed Nationals competition each year and it is thrilling to see the sport growing - and the times shrinking!
